JACK ELLISTER   Hyacinth Express (2009)

MusicMaker:

File Under:

YORDAN ORCHESTRA (2010)   Psych Introduxeon/Bringing Ingredients Together  - EP

                                          Keys and Chords (BE)

LEGACY (GER)

'Psych Introduxeon' suggests you should pull the ripcord and join hands with them for the plunge.
WHISPERIN and HOLLERIN (UK)

Like a baroque, burlesque and grungier version of early ’70s Pink Floyd, Yordan Orchestra wear their lysergic attitude loudly – announcing they have “mushrooms to try” on ‘Faced You In A Neon Light’ – but retain a core of approachable, melodic musical experimentalism that certain media-celebrated British bands would do well to emulate.
BEATMAG (UK )

As a genre its not easy to make Psychedelic music sound original however, Yordan Orchestra have managed it here with aplomb and this majestic offering
TASTY FANZINE (UK)

Yordan Orchestra 'Psych Introduxeon' - The '90s indie rock revival is upon us. Dear god.
MTV online

Verrassende arrangementen, doordacht spel en goed vormgegeven.
LIVE XS (NL)

Some of the stuff is quite catchy and even radio-friendly, but they also have a more experimental, artistic side plus jamming is part of their live show.
BAD ACID / DjAstro (SWE / UK)

Yordan Orchestra's 'Psych Introduxeon/Bringing Ingredients Together' is essentially a piece of performance art best approached by letting the slow moving post psychedelic musings wash over you.
Get Ready To ROCK (UK)

GONZO CIRCUS (Be/ NL)

HEAVEN (BE)

The Man With The Biochopper
Psychotropic Zone review
Strongly influenced by 60’s psychedelia, ”The Man with the Biochopper” is a marvelous, heady, atmospheric and melodic song that has a pleasantly laid-back, mid-paced tempo and includes lots of hallucinatory effects. All the friends of Fruits de Mer will like it I’m sure! I can’t wait to hear the whole album. The Satanic Majesties album by The Rolling Stones made a huge impact on Ellister right when he first heard it so “Citadel” was a natural cover song choice for the single’s B side. And oh boy how good this sounds! The organ sound is interesting and sharp, the vocals work very well and the repetitive solo jamming in the end is just psychedelic bliss. Superb! This is an amazing single that you should get as soon as possible.  Dj Astro  link

Heyday review
‘The Man With A Biochopper’ b/w ‘Citadel’. Yes, the b-side is the Stones track re-arranged a little with the Keef riff played on piano, while the rest of the backing takes on a Pink Floyd ‘See Emily Play’ type feel. ‘Citadel’ has now become so familiar to these ears over the years that it’s refreshing to hear a new version of it. This one is very good, and could easily have been the a-side, but you really have to hear what this guy can do when he writes his own songs!
‘The Man With A Biochopper’ ‘springs’ out the speakers and in some ways is a ‘Careful With That Axe, Eugene’ for the 21st century (or maybe even ‘Madman Running Through The Fields’! Ho, ho…) – yes, there are chilling screams near the end, and lots more besides. The production and arrangement are interesting, and it leaves you pretty well exhausted by the time the track ends. Immediate and very catchy…’Radioland’ take note.   link

The Man With The Biochopper 7" reviews
Aural Innovation review
The music has a classic 60s sound, but without feeling retro, and a totally spaced out vibe. It’s got a great catchy melody and Jack fits plenty of tripped out instrumental bits within the confines of a 3+ minute song. The B-side features Jack’s cover of The Rolling Stones’ Citadel, which appeared on the 1967 Their Satanic Majesties Request album. The vocals, melody and general vibe of Jack’s version are faithful to the original, but I’d say he outdoes the Stones for pure psychedelia, leaving us with a tasty instrumental finale.

The Strange Brew review
Let’s kick off with “The Man With Biochopper”. I don’t know much about Jack but he’s clearly a great talent and manages to throw in the kitchen sink with this brilliant original track. He blends a demented Spector-esque production, swirling airy Flaming Lips atmosphere, brilliant guitar noise into a crescendo topped off with mad lyrics – what’s not to like!
“Citadel” originally on the love it or hate it Stones “Satanic Majesties” (I love it) gets dusted down, resuscitated and gets sprinkled with a dose of Piper at the Gates to great effect. Highly recommended.  link
NME writes
'Citadel' - originally appeared on The Rolling Stones' much-maligned psychedelic album from 1967 'Satanic Majesties', (a classic in my mind); it is now reinterpreted by Jack Ellister on his new single on Fruits de Mer Records' Regal Crabomophone label - on sale mid-August. Jack creates 21st century psychedelia - somehow merging the old and the new to brilliant effect. His new single, also featuring his own composition, 'The Man With The Biochopper', is available on strictly-limited 7" vinyl from Fruits de Mer Records. ('biochopper' has already been played out on BBC 6Music's Radcliffe & Maconie Show)

Shindig! review
As Shindig! readers will know, there are those so taken with the sounds and spirit of the '60s that they come across as pointless pasticheurs, utterly beholden to a long-gone era. Jack Ellister, formerly of Angina Pectoris and Yordan Orchestra, is not one of those people. He draws heavily on '60s sounds and musical iconography, yet conjures an end-product that is fresh, contemporary and strikingly original.

'The Man With The Biochopper' has a recurring guitar theme that's somehow redolent of some half-forgotten vintage TV theme - throbbing, rubbery bass, female vocals that whisper sexily and coo girlishly, and a nice, dirty-sounding guitar solo. On the flip is a cover of The Stones' 'Citadel', which manages to be both lysergically trippy, yet pin-sharp and focussed too, in a mind-bendingly beautiful arrangement featuring tumbling drums, reverbed vocals, maracas, treated piano and wah-wah guitars. One of the best covers you'll hear all year.
